In the past few days, Tiger Woods has found his name in several headlines following his car crash and DUI arrest. Ahead of the Masters Tournament, 6-time major champion Sir Nick Faldo claimed that Woods should be held accountable and took a swipe at the PGA Tour for their “weak” statement.

Woods, 50, was involved in a rollover car crash near his residence in Jupiter, Florida, last Friday. His Land Rover flipped on the road after it clipped a cleaner truck.

During the questioning, he would have a negative alcohol test. However, after he refused to take part in urinalysis and failed the field sobriety test, he was arrested and charged under DUI, refusal to submit and property damage.

According to the arrest affidavit, the golfer was seen “sweating profusely” with his eyes “glassy” and “bloodshot” while his pupils dilated. He claimed that he got distracted by the radio while he was on the phone.

On Tuesday, Woods would make his first comments after this incident. In a post on X, the 82-time PGA Tour winner expressed that he was stepping away from golf and seeking treatment for his health.

The PGA Tour would extend their support towards him and release a statement.

Tiger continues to have our full support as he takes this important step.

PGA Tour said as a part of their statement regarding Tiger Woods

Sir Nick Faldo recently made his feelings known regarding Woods. While speaking with the reporters, the Englishmen did express feeling bad for Woods. However, he expressed that Woods should not be welcomed back with open arms and must be held accountable for his mistakes.

There are two sides to this right now. There’s one side that’s like… let’s care for Tiger. And then there has got to be a responsibility and an accountability side as well.

Sir Nick Faldo said as per James Corrigan of The Telegraph

The 68-year-old then took a swipe at the PGA Tour. He believes that their statement regarding Woods was “weak” and again called for accountability.

This is a serious thing that he has done. I look at the PGA Tour statement, it was so predictably weak. … I’ve got a feeling that if he disappears and comes back in a couple of months, everything will carry on as normal. I’m not sure if that is right. It’s not a good message to the kids of today.

Sir Nick Faldo added

Faldo is not the only one who urged for harsher consequences for Woods. Sportscaster Stephen A. Smith brought up his past incidents and claimed that the 15-time major champion had been given too much leniency.

As per reports, the golfer has pleaded not guilty in the DUI arrest case. He has also demanded a fair trial and a jury.

Woods has been permitted to fly outside of the United States and seek treatment abroad. The golfer cited privacy concerns as a reason.

In the episode of First Take on Wednesday, Stephen A. Smith launched a fresh attack on Woods. After he was done, radio star Chris “Mad Dog” Russo would comment on this matter.

The 66-year-old would blame the likes of Justin Thomas and others close to Woods. He questioned why no one sat down with him to chat about his behavior.

I’m going to blame the golf people here too. Justin Thomas is his best friend. A lot of these golfers, you know, “I adore Tiger.” How about somebody in the last 15 years say, “Tiger, enough of this nonsense.” … How about somebody in the sport in the last 10 years put a stop to this, take the keys away?

Chris Russo said regarding Tiger Woods

This was the 4th time Woods was involved in a car crash. In 2009, his vehicle would crash into a fire hydrant.

In 2017, he was found unconscious behind the wheel of his car. Reports later revealed the presence of around 5 drugs in his body.

In 2021, he was involved in a single-car accident outside of Los Angeles, California. This incident led to him suffering severe lower-body injuries and requiring several surgeries.

Since then, Woods has struggled with fitness. Before the crash on Friday, he was working his way to get ready for the upcoming Masters Tournament. However, he will not be part of the playing field next week at the Augusta National Golf Club after this incident.
