Tiger Woods‘ recent car crash and DUI arrest sent the sporting world into a frenzy. On Wednesday, Chris “Mad Dog” Russo blamed Justin Thomas and other golfers for Woods’ troubling behavior.

On Friday, March 27, the golfer was involved in another car accident. His Land Rover would flip on the road after he tried to swerve away and avoid a collision with a cleaner truck near his residence in Jupiter, Florida.

Fortunately, nobody was severely harmed in this. Woods would later blow a 0.00 on an alcohol breathalyzer. However, his refusal to submit a urine sample for testing resulted in him being arrested and booked under DUI, property damage and refusal to submit.

Hours after the arrest, Woods was released on bail. This was the 4th time Woods had been involved in a car incident.

On Tuesday, he broke his silence and made a statement. In this, he announced taking a break from golf and seeking treatment to get better.

During the episode of First Take on Wednesday, Russo would discuss about Woods along with Stephen A. Smith. After Smith’s explosive comments regarding the golfer, the 66-year-old aimed at Justin Thomas (Woods’ close friend) and several others.

I’m going to blame the golf people here too. Justin Thomas is his best friend. A lot of these golfers, you know, “I adore Tiger.” How about somebody in the last 15 years say, “Tiger, enough of this nonsense.”… how about somebody in the sport in the last 10 years put a stop to this, take the keys away?

Chris Russo said regarding Tiger Woods

In 2017, Woods found himself in controversy after he was found unconscious behind the wheel of his car. Reports later revealed the presence of 5 drugs into his system.

4 years later, in 2021, his car would crash outside of Los Angeles, California. This left him with multiple injuries and required several surgeries.

Tiger Woods will not be Ryder Cup captain in 2027

Following another major controversy, Tiger Woods on Tuesday announced that he will be on a hiatus. With this announcement, the PGA of America made a statement as well and revealed that he will not be serving as the U.S. Captain in the 2027 Ryder Cup.

After the loss in 2023, there had been reports about Woods being the next captain of Team USA. In the end, the PGA of America would appoint Keegan Bradley as the captain and give him the role to lead out the team.

The 2025 edition of the Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black Course in New York saw the United States suffer another defeat. Despite a strong fightback on Sunday, Team Europe would hold on and claim their second successive triumph as they won 15-13.

In the past few months, Woods found his name linked with this role again. During the Genesis Invitational press conference, the former World No.1 admitted that he had been offered this role.

A report from AP later claimed that he had been given a “soft deadline” to decide about this. He was also the only candidate in this.

On Wednesday, the PGA of America would release a statement and extend its support to him. In this, they revealed that the golfer had turned down the chance to lead his country as captain in the next edition.

Tiger has shared with us that he will not serve as Captain of the 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup Team and we support his decision.

PGA of America said in a statement regarding Tiger Woods

Despite his individual brilliance, Woods has won the Ryder Cup just once in his career. He has a 13-21-3 record while going 0-4-0 and recording 0 points in his last appearance in 2018.

As for the Ryder Cup, the next edition will be held at Adare Manor in Ireland. Team Europe has announced the return of Luke Donald as captain and will have the Englishman lead the team for a third straight tournament.

The big question now is, who will be the USA’s captain? A few weeks ago, Keegan Bradley expressed that he was having a hard time moving on from the defeat and that he would love to represent the USA as captain once again. Only time will tell what the PGA of America decides.
