The Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to face each other for the first time since Super Bowl LIX. A historic Jalen Hurts performance helped the Eagles lift the Lombardi trophy that day, but Patrick Mahomes and Co. are itching to avenge that defeat.

Hurts and the Eagles started the 2025 season by securing a 24-20 victory over divisional rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. The reigning Super Bowl MVP, Hurts, completed 19 passes from 23 attempts for 152 yards, along with 14 carries for 62 yards and two scores on the ground. Star running back and the 2024 Offensive Player of the Year, Saquon Barkley, rushed 18 times for 60 yards and one score.

The Chiefs, on the other hand, suffered a defeat in their first game of the 2025 season. Divisional rivals, the Los Angeles Chargers, handed the Chiefs a 27-21 loss in Brazil. Mahomes threw 24 completions for 258 yards and one touchdown and ran 6 times with the ball for 57 yards and one score. Wide receiver Hollywood Brown logged 10 catches for 99 yards, while HOF-bound tight end Travis Kelce scored a touchdown.

Sunday will mark the Chiefs-Eagles’ seventh meeting, with the team from the AFC West leading the series 6-5-0.

The Chiefs will be without suspended Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy, who picked up a shoulder injury in Brazil. Patrick Mahomes has to rely on the services of veterans Noah Gray, Travis Kelce, and JuJu Smith-Schuster to log the yards through the air. Running backs Isiah Pacheco and Kareem Hunt must step up. The duo combined to record 10 carries for 41 yards in week 1.

Why can the Philadelphia Eagles win?

The Eagles were handed a boost after the NFL reduced pass rusher Jalen Carter’s punishment for spitting on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott. Carter is eligible to start against the Chiefs while Will Shipley is out with an injury.

Jalen Hurts was efficient through the air in week one, but a chunk of his passes went to TE Dallas Goedert, 7 for 44 yards. The trio of AJ Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Jahan Dotson combined caught 7 for 83 yards.
