In the city of Philadelphia, two plays are widely associated with each of their two Super Bowl wins. The first is the iconic Philly Special to which the Patriots had no response in 2018. Over the last three years, another play has become synonymous with the Eagles’ offense, that is of course the tush push.
The play is a guaranteed way for the Eagles offense to convert on plays that require them to gain one yard or less. The team’s first touchdown in Super Bowl LIX came as a result of the tush push. The go-to play is the nightmare of defenses but the pride of Philadelphia.
At the team’s Super Bowl parade, a bunch of police officers decided to have some fun by emulating the tush push. The group of five officers huddled up similar to the football players and shortly after three of them lined up while one officer stood behind ready to take the snap and one more officer standing right behind him.

The Eagles have a remarkable success rate when they run the tush push
The officer went on to snap the ball and the one receiving the ball pushed the trio in front of him while the officer at the back gave him an extra push to gain that one yard. Philadelphia’s tush push, albeit a successful play is controversial. There have been cries from fans to call for a ban due to how good it is. Recently veteran analyst Jim Nantz vouched for the play to be banned as well.

In the 2022 season, the Eagles were able to convert on 29 of 32 tush push attempts. Despite the attempts of their opponents to mimic the tush push, none have been able to achieve the same level of success as Philadelphia. The team’s incredible offensive line can push past anything and Hurts’ skill to never fumble on this play results in the team securing that yard nearly every time.
It is unlikely that the tush push will ever be banned. After all, seldom has a play been banned because other teams could not stop it. The play has yielded a 76% success rate for other teams not considering the 2024-25 season. For Philadelphia, however, ESPN pegs the success rate between 80-90%.
