India played its first warm-up match against Australia on Monday, October 17 at The Gabba. After putting up 186/7, they restricted the Australians to 180 with the help of pacer Mohammed Shami.
Australia skipper Aaron Finch won the toss and chose to field first. India had a fiery start with opener KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. They stitched 78-run partnership for the first wicket before Rahul lost his wicket to Glenn Maxwell.
This happened in the eight over, Maxwell bowled a shorter one around the middle. Rahul went for the pull but mistimed it. Ashton Agar ran from the deep mid-wicket and grabbed an easy catch. Rahul departed after scoring 57 runs off 33 balls with six fours and three sixes.
Rohit scored 15 runs off 16 balls, while Virat Kohli played a 19-run knock off 13 balls. In-form batter Suryakumar Yadav also scored his half-century. He played 33 balls studded with six fours and a six to score it.
On the fourth ball of the last over, Kane Richardson bowled a dipping low full toss, making Surya go for an early flick and hit the ball with the toe end of his blade. The ball ended up looping back towards the bowler and Richardson didn’t miss the catch. Richardson grabbed four wickets.
In Australia’s response, Aaron Finch scored 76 runs off 54 balls, while Mitchell Marsh scored 35 runs off 18 balls. In the last over of their innings off Mohammed Shami, Aussies lost back to back four wickets and failed score the six runs needed to win the match. Shami also defended 11 runs in the final over.
