A little-known fact about the Buffalo Bills is that the team’s ownership changed hands recently in 2014. Terry and Kim Pegula purchased the team for $1.4 billion, a sum that was an NFL record at the time. However, there was another notable name in the running to bid for the Bills—that was Donald Trump.

The former POTUS and prominent businessman attempted to purchase the Buffalo Bills. He is an avid sports fan and thereby was interested in the prospect of owning a team in the NFL. Trump revealed the story behind his bid during his latest appearance on Bussin With the Boys podcast.

Three years before Trump became President, he almost made it into the inner circle of NFL owners.

Nah, not close. The owner who got it is a very good man. I think he’s done a great job. Well, he made a great pick. He picked a great quarterback, right? Josh (Allen)

Donald Trump said

Trump is on good terms with the Pegulas despite Terry Pegula having taken shots at him on previous occasions. He commended them for the direction in which they have taken the franchise.

Donald Trump further gave them their flowers for making the right decision in picking the best quarterback for the team, Josh Allen. It is evident he admires the QB.

He’s a very nice guy. I think he’s terrific, I think he’s done a great job with that team. He drafted a quarterback who was going to be the number-one draft pick and then he said things on the internet that weren’t good and they passed him…So there are six teams that…fired their scouting system right?

The former POTUS is a fan of Josh Allen and loves the success story of the quarterback.

He believes that the Pegulas made the right decision in drafting Josh Allen, whose stock fell just hours before the 2018 NFL Draft after a few offensive tweets made by the quarterback surfaced. The quarterback had responded to a radio interview on AskFM by stating “If it ain’t white, it ain’t right,” and had expressed his public dislike for NBA star LeBron James in 2011.

This caused teams to panic and as a result, his stock fell to sixth overall. Two quarterbacks were selected ahead of him, Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold, with the first two picks.

However, it is fair to say that since then, Josh Allen has gone on to establish himself as the best quarterback from that draft class. The Bills’ bet on him has paid off for the team.

This year, he is having a great season having thrown for 1,160 yards, 10 touchdowns, and zero interceptions through six games. He leads the NFL in QBR with 79.3 and is in the running to be considered for the MVP honors.
