Premier League 2020/21: Arsenal get an important win over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur
Arsenal
Arsenal yet again got the bragging rights after securing an important win against North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Sunday night. Martin Odegaard and Alexander Lacazette scored the goals for the Gunners as Eric Lamela received a red card in the second half.
A first half of equal dominance and contribution
The Gunners get a very crucial win for their European aspirations for next season with this win over Jose Mourinho’s men. For the Spurs though, this loss will give them plenty to think about. Moreover the injury to South Korean sensation Heung Min Son makes things even for difficult for Jose Mourinho and his men.
Tottenham Hotspur opened the scoring via a fantastic Rabona effort from Eric Lamela into the far post. Left back Sergio Reguillon cushioned the ball for Lucas Moura who controlled it and passed it towards Lamela. Eric Lamela in an outrageous fashion attempted a Rabona at the far post and the ball slithered into the far post!
However that was the only positive moment for Tottenham Hotspur as they failed to show any real sense of domination following the goal. This gave Mikel Arteta’s men an opportunity to capitalise and they did via Norwegian International Martin Odegaard.
After applying some considerable pressure on the Tottenham Hotspur defense, Arsenal finally reaped the rewards in the 44th minute.Kieran Tierney cutback to provide the ball towards Odegaard whose left footed shot found the back of the net.
Tottenham Hotspur succumbed to ten men in the second half
In the 64th minute centre back Davidson Sanchez brought down striker Alexander Lacazette in the penalty box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. Lacazette stepped up and put the red outfit ahead in the absence of captain Pierre Emrick Aubameyang.
Things got even worse for Tottenham Hotspur as a second yellow card was presented to goalscorer Eric Lamela as his extended arm hurt Kieran Tierney. Lamela whose match started so well ended on a sour note.
However ever since going down to 10 men, Tottenham Hotspur started to pick up the tempo and attacked the goal. They even found the back of the net as Harry Kane got on the end of a cross and converted but the sideline Referee’s flag was immediately raised.
But the best chance for Tottenham Hotspur came from Harry Kane’s free-kick which hit the bar post. Davidson Sanchez looked to convert the rebound but centre back Gabriel headed away in dramatic fashion.
