Chelsea cruised to a 2-0 win against Newcastle United in the Premier League. Second half goal from Tammy Abraham was enough to seal the deal for the blues after an early own goal.
The London outfit has now gone 9 games unbeaten and have won 5 matches in a row. Chelsea now sit pretty at the top of the league with 18 points.
Chelsea started the match without the likes of Kai Havertz and Thiago Silva. Moreover France international N’golo Kante was given the armband in the absence of the Brazilian.
Mason Mount started to put pressure on the Newcastle United defense with a cross with Chilwell attacking high. Federico Fernandes was unable to clear his lines and instead conceded an own goal. The blues got lucky to start the match.
The Blues hardly gave any chance to the Magpies with almost 85% possession. Jacob Murphy did try a long shot but that was never threatening the Chelsea goal. Moments later Timo Werner fluffed his lines giving Newcastle a glimmer of hope.
The Magpies made a substitution in the second half with Jamal Lascelles being replaced by Fabian Schar. The substitute almost gave a goal away when he lost the ball to Werner but Kieran Clark was there to clear the danger.
However Chelsea doubled their lead in the 65th minute through Tammy Abraham. Timo Werner raced into the final third. A simple cross to Abraham whose shot deflected in off the post.
Sean Longstaff tried a shot from far range and that clipped the post to continue Newcastle’s misery. Werner did have the ball in Newcastle’s net but that was called offside and the deficit remained to two.
