Ryan Fraser’s pass was deflected by Yerry Mina and Callum Wilson scored his second goal

Callum Wilson scored a brace as Newcastle United survived a scare to beat Everton. Everton have lost twice in a row and have dropped to second place after Liverpool defeated West Ham United on Saturday. Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored a stoppage time goal, but it wasn’t enough to salvage anything as Newcastle held on.

Match Report

Callum Wilson scored a penalty when he was fouled by Andre Gomes in the Everton penalty area. A subsequent VAR check allowed Wilson to take the kick. He later scored from a Ryan Fraser assist, just like in their Bournemouth days. Dominic Calvert Lewin pulled one back for the Toffees, but the Magpies braved the match and won all three points. This is Everton’s second loss in a row and now they are no longer league leaders.

Everton were missing James Rodriguez to a testicular injury, while Richarlison was suspended since his red card against Liverpool. Lucas Digne was also missing after getting a red card against Southampton. Micheal Keane and Yerry Mina started together as the centre-back pair for Everton and the latter ended up responsible for the second goal. He deflected Ryan Fraser’s cross towards Wilson, who put the ball into the net.
