Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for relishing him for his contribution towards Indian cricket.

PM Modi earlier wrote a lengthy and emotional letter to Dhoni after the latter announced his retirement from international cricket.

PM Modi appreciates Dhoni’s contribution for nation

Prime Minister Narendra Modi wrote a two-page long letter to MS Dhoni.

Prime Minister Modi lauded Dhoni for his accomplishments on the field.

“In your trademark unassuming style, you shared a video that was enough to become a passionate discussion point for the entire nation. 130 Cr Indians were disappointed but also eternally grateful for all that you have done for Indian cricket,” PM Modi wrote in a two-page long letter.

Calling him one of the greatest captains, PM Modi appreciated Dhoni’s dependability in tough situations and match-winning abilities. PM Modi added the 2011 World Cup final will forever be etched in the public memory for generations.

The correct way to assess your impact is a phenomenon,” the PM further said.

PM Modi also said that Dhoni’s rise and conduct give strength and inspiration to crores of youngsters.

“You have been one of the important illustrations of the spirit of New India, where the family name does not make young people’s destiny but they make their own names and destinies,” PM Modi wrote.

Where we come from does not matter as long as we know where we are headed – this is the spirit that you have exuded and inspired many youngsters with,” the Prime Minister added.

Dhoni replies to PM Modi

Meanwhile, Dhoni replied by thanking PM Modi for his kind words.

Dhoni’s last match was 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand in Manchester. Dhoni will lead Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL season which begins from September 19.
