The Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season is about to commence soon and the warm up fixtures for India’s most promising domestic event are underway. Maharashtra took on Mumbai at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune and what was supposed to be just a warm up for the big tournament, but things go very heated eventually.

Maharashtra batted first and Prithvi Shaw, who is a former Mumbai player opened the batting with Arshin Kulkarni. The pair put up a fantastic 305 run partnership for the first wicket before Kulkarni eventually got dismissed for a magnificent 186 off 140 balls.

Shaw on the other hand took his time and brought his 100 up in 140 balls before adding another 81 runs to his name. With Maharashtra at 430/2, Mumbai all rounder Musheer Khan trapped Shaw at deep fine leg as the batter mistimed a slog sweep.

Shaw was dismissed for an incredible 181 but didn’t leave the field without drama. As reported by Cricbuzz, Khan triggered Shaw after he dismissed him by saying “Thank You” to the batter in a very sarcastic tone.

The sledge didn’t sit very well with Shaw who charged back at Khan and grabbed his collar. He also swung his bat in anger at the bowler who just missed getting hit by the willow. Shaw and Khan had been teammates for a few years before the former decided to shift loyalties and join the Maharashtra side.

The incident suggests that the pair may have had a few verbal exchanges throughout Shaw’s innings and it eventually boiled up on his dismissal. Shaw continued the rage even after getting to his dressing room as he had a sharp exchange of words with Mumbai player Siddhesh Lad and the umpires had to intervene over there as well.

Despite it being a warm match and not really a go to contest, an altercation like this has grabbed quite a few eyeballs. Maharashtra skipper Ankit Bawne also weighed into the matter and assured that the relations between the players involved are now better.

It’s a practice match. They are all former teammates. Such things happen. It’s all okay now and there is no issue.

Prithvi Shaw has had his heated moments a few times in the last few years. However, what has really changed since he has shifted to Maharashtra is his form. The batter seems to be much more assured in the way he approaches his innings and a good example of that is the 111 he scored against the Chhattisgarh side at the Buchi Babu tournament.

He has backed it up with a scintillating 181 and looks determined to make the upcoming Ranji Trophy season all his own. Shaw has some really promising numbers in first class cricket. However, he still hasn’t been able to cement his place in the national team.

In 58 first class matches, Shaw has amassed a total of 4556 runs at an impressive average of 46.02. His numbers include 13 centuries and 18 half centuries, and a scintillating 379 as his highest score in the longest domestic format.
