Fourth Place Finish for Priya Mohan in Women’s 400m Finals of World Athletics U20 Championships in Nairobi

The World Athletics U20 Championships are currently ongoing in Nairobi, Kenya. The young Indian contingent are having an excellent games with India already bagging two medals at the Games.

Earlier this week, the mixed 4x400m relay, which consisted of sprinter Priya Mohan took home a historic bronze medal after an exceptional performance finishing with a time of 3:20.60s. Earlier today, Amit Kumar also took the silver medal in the men’s 10,000m race walk finals.

Mohan qualified for semi-finals after coming in fourth place in heat 3 with a time of 53.79s. She took the second lane in the finals of the women’s 400m on day 4 of the championships.

Priya Mohan Finishes Just out of Podium in 400m at World Athletics U20 Championships

The race was off to a start and Mohan was out of the blocks in a strong fashion, as she held off the Ukrainian Kharashchuk who was right beside her in lane 1. The last 100m was the crucial section of the race, where Nigeria’s Imaobong Uko took a surprise lead to win the race with a time of 51.55s, a personal best.

Poland’s Kornelia Lesiewicz, the favourite to win the event, took home silver, as she finished with a time of 51.97s. The finish between third and fourth place was a tight one, as Mohan seemed to be in third place in the last 80m. However, she just got nicked by the Kenyan Sylvia Chelangat, who took home the bronze medal with a time of 52.23s.

Mohan finished fourth after an impressive performance, ending the race in 52.77s, a personal best for her. All of the top four athletes finished their races with personal best timings, making it one of the most interesting and fast paced races.
