The Mutua Madrid Open is one of three Masters 1000 events played on European clay courts. The tournament, which started back in 2002, has also included the WTA Tour from 2009. It is held every year in the historical city of Madrid, Spain.
Rafael Nadal is the tournament’s most successful winner, with five titles to his name. While the Spaniard has been out of form due to his recurring injuries, the 22-time Grand Slam champion will be back on his home ground after a year. The next-best player in Madrid with three titles, Novak Djokovic, has decided to drop out of the tournament.
Even the likes of Carlos Alcaraz is uncertain, as he is currently resting his right forearm, and has a few delayed plans for Madrid.
Jannik Sinner, on the other hand, will be making his appearance and is one of the favorites to win the tournament. Some other prominent players include Stefanos Tsitsipas, Alexander Zverev, and Holger Rune.
On the women’s side of things, Iga Swiatek will lead the circuit and will be accompanied by her rivals Aryna Sabalenka and Coco Gauff. With a very open women’s draw this year, any possibility might stir up. However, Jessica Pegula recently shared a health update with her fans, confirming her withdrawal from the Madrid Open.
