PSG:

Where has Lionel Messi gone wrong at PSG?

Donnarumma (6/10): The goalkeeper was called into action a couple of times throughout the game and dealt with it well. However, Donnarumma had no answer for Mats Rit’s strike in the second half.

Hakimi (6/10): Stayed up throughout the game, still was outperformed by his fullback partner, Nuno Mendes.

Marquinhos (5/10): Bang average performance from the Brazilian. While the midfield offered no support, the likes of Lang and Ketelaere at times found it too easy to play in behind.

Abdou Diallo (6/10): Made several crucial interceptions in the game. Certainly better defensively than Marquinhos.

Nuno Mendes (9/10): Gave nightmares to the Brugge right-back in the first half along with Mbappe. Also, resilient defensively.

Idrissa Gueye (6/10): Was needed more in the second half as Brugge gained some momentum. Had to be taken off due to injury.

Marco Verratti (7/10): Didn’t have much of a challenge in the middle. Nevertheless, was brilliant with his passing.

Georginio Wijnaldum (6/10): Was a constant goal threat for the home side with his off-the-ball movements. Was poor out of possession.

Angel Di Maria (7/10): Started the game with that cheeky assist for Kylian Mbappe. Faded as the game went on.

Lionel Messi (9/10): The now seven-time Ballon d’Or winner had moments of magic throughout the game and scored a brace. For the first one, Messi cut in and just seemed to have placed the ball beyond the reach of Mignolet from fairly outside the box.

Kylian Mbappe (10/10): Took the game away from the visitors in the first 20 minutes. A perfect way for the Frenchman to end the group stage.

Substitutes:

Thilo Kehrer (5/10): Came on early in the second half to replace the injured Mendes. Had a really poor start, getting himself booked early too.

Ander Herrera (7/10): Was brought on to steady the ship and see out the game. Did his job to an extent.

Mauro Icardi: (NA

Club Brugge

Simon Mignolet (3/10): It’s never an easy outing for any goalkeeper against this PSG attack. However, Mignolet didn’t do himself any favors with his performance.

Clinton Mata (4/10): Kylian Mbappe toyed with him throughout the game. Nevertheless, Mata did have some sparkly moments going forward.

Jack Hendry (3/10): Wasn’t directly at fault for any of the 4 goals. Was poor with his positioning in the first half.

Stanley Soki (3/10): Again, not at fault for any goals. However, Soki was decent with his long balls.

Federico Ricca (4/10): Contained Hakimi well. Struggled to create anything going forward.

Mats Rita (7/10): Took his chance with a clinical finish and inserted some spark into the game.

Eder Balanta (5/10): Struggled to impose himself against the likes of Verratti and Gueye. Was taken off in the second half.

Cisse Sandra (7/10): Even though his team came up short, Sandra should hold his head up. The 17-year-old made some brilliant runs in behind the PSG defense, coming up short with finishing.

Hans Vanaken (6/10): Nealy set up Sandra in the first half, stealing the ball for PSG. Struggled in the second half.

Noa Lang (8/10): Was a lively threat and certainly Brugge’s best attacker. Got the assist off Mats Rits’ goal.

Charles De Ketelaere (6/10): Had his moments against an average PSG defense. Failed to convert.

Substitutes:

Van Der Brempt (5/10): Standard 5 for Brempt, couldn’t affect the game after coming on for Sandra.

Ruud Vormer (7/10): Certainly the better of the three Brugge substitutes. Vomer even managed to sneak in a key pass.

Noah Mbamba (6/10): Had an opportunity to impose himself as PSG took Verratti out. Failed to do so.
