The player draft of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 saw veteran opener Chris Gayle get picked up by the Quetta Gladiators. Gayle, the Universe Boss, is coming off an impressive run in the Indian Premier League (IPL). And will be seen opening the batting alongside explosive Englishman Tom Banton who was also roped in by the Gladiators. Sarfaraz Khan‘s Gladiators also bagged the services of South African speedster Dale Steyn.
The ICC T20I Cricketer of the Decade, Rashid Khan was picked up by the Peshawar Zalmi as their only Platinum player. David Miller and Mujeeb ur Rahman are the top signings of the Peshawar Zalmi. Sherfane Rutherford and Ravi Bopara are two other big names bagged by the Zalmi. Barring the new signings, the Zalmi boast of some veteran Pakistan players in Shoaib Mallick and Wahab Riaz who they retained ahead of the draft.
No takers for Dawid Malan
World’s reigning number one batsman of the format, Dawid Malan went unsold in the recently concluded PSL draft. It is not like that the franchises let go of a big opportunity but it is his unavailability which saw him go unsold. Malan will be on international duty during the sixth edition of the PSL which kicks off in February. Hard hitters Chris Lynn and Carlos Braithwaite were bagged by the Multan Sultans.
Amongst the big names, Hasan Ali and Chris Jordan will be featuring for the Islamabad United. Karachi Kings became the only franchise who didn’t sign any Platinum players during the draft. Instead, they booked the services of Afghan all-rounder Mohammed Nabi along with Dan Christian.
