The Texas Longhorns entered the Cotton Bowl Classic knowing all too well that the Ohio State Buckeyes were going to give them a tough time. The onus was on quarterback Quinn Ewers and his teammates to come out with a win and keep Longhorns fans’ hopes of a championship alive.

However, Ewers’ day did not go as planned as he started the first half by coming up empty in his first five drives. By that time, Ohio State had already taken the lead and was threatening to make Texas pay. Ewers managed to get them to tie the Buckeyes on that drive. However, Ohio State came back to retain the lead at the half.

In the second half, both teams went back and forth until Ohio State was in the lead again. On the next drive, Quinn Ewers drove the length of the field to bring his team into a 1st and goal situation. Two incomplete passes saw them standing at a 3rd and goal with their season on the line. In such a situation, the best quarterbacks make something happen.

With his NFL future at stake, he dropped back to survey the field. Then, as he lifted his arm to throw, his former roommate at Ohio State, Jack Sawyer, sacked him from his right. The ensuing hit saw the ball come out of Ewers’ hands and Sawyer scooped it up and ran 83 yards to score.

The game was almost over as Ohio State stood with a 28-14 lead. However, a game is never over until the final whistle sounds. The Longhorns tried to make the most of it and Quinn Ewers again came out to spray passes. However, one of those passes ended up being an interception, and that sealed the game.

Fans tear into Quinn Ewers for costing Texas the win

Ahead of the game, all the focus of this game was on Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith after he torched Oregon in the Rose Bowl. However, Texas’ defense locked him down to just three yards.

Ohio State had to resort to their run game to score points as QB Will Howard struggled despite his big numbers. That meant all Ewers had to do was play efficient football and the Longhorns would have won.

Instead, football fans saw a horrible outing from the quarterback who has finally declared for the NFL Draft. His performance cost them the game and saw fans shredding him on social media.

During the game, fans were chanting for Arch Manning to take over the game. That was how bad they knew the situation was. However, the coaching staff preferred to stick with Quinn Ewers, who ended up costing them dearly.
