“I want to go to Rome and win,” says Rafael Nadal after quarterfinal loss at Madrid Open 2021
Rafael Nadal
Rafael Nadal was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Madrid Open 2021 on Friday. The Spaniard was defeated in straight sets by Alexander Zverev, who will now face Dominic Thiem in the semifinals. Nadal had been in good form off-late, winning his 12th title in Barcelona, a few weeks ago.
Speaking in the post match conference, Rafael Nadal accepted that he made a few unjustifiable mistakes against Zverev, and in the key moments of the match, he could not come out on top.
“I made unjustifiable mistakes. The feelings are bad. It’s a complicated week for me. I’m climbing a stairway and today I made a step behind. In the key moments I did all bad,” said Nadal.
Rafael Nadal eyes 10th title in Rome
Rafael Nadal will now compete at the Italian Open 2021 next week, which will be the final step before he enters the French Open 2021. The Spaniard has already won nine titles in Rome, and will be eyeing to enter double figures this year.
Last year, he was defeated in the quarterfinals of the Italian Open by Diego Schwartzman in straight sets. The 20 time Grandslam champion revealed that his main objective is to go to Rome, and claim the title. “I want to go to Rome and win Rome ahead of the French Open,” said Nadal.
Rafael Nadal will then compete at the French Open 2021, where he will aim to win his 14th title. Last year, he claimed the title in Paris, after he defeated Novak Djokovic in the finals of Roland Garros in straight sets.
