Rafael Nadal had a decent year on tour, where he did not play much tennis owing to the coronavirus pandemic. Nevertheless, the Spaniard won his 13th French Open title in dominating fashion which leveled him with Roger Federer in the race for most Grandslam titles won. He ended his season with semifinal losses at Paris Masters and the Nitto ATP Finals. According to the Lorenzo Sonego’s coach, the Spaniard has had a few niggles recently.

Rafael Nadal has started his pre-season training at his own Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca and also practiced with Felix Auger-Aliassime last week. The Rafa Nadal Academy has also offered it’s training facilities to Lorenzo Sonego who recently defeated Novak Djokovic at the Vienna Open.

Sonego’s coach, Gipo Arbino spoke to Ubitennis about their time at the Academy and gave some news regarding Nadal’s physical problems.“Rafa has had some physical problems in recent days,” Arbino said.

Lorenzo Sonego might train with Nadal in the coming days

Gipo Arbino suggested that Lorenzo Sonego could train with Rafael Nadal in the coming few days, dismissing any talk of a severe injury. “I think tomorrow (Thursday) or Friday Lorenzo could also train with him,” Arbino said.

Rafael Nadal will aim for his second Australian Open title in 2021, something which he has been chasing since 2009. This year, the Spaniard suffered a four-defeat at the hands of Dominic Thiem in the quarterfinals. Arbino, Lorenzo Sonego’s coach praised the Rafa Nadal Academy by stating that it was an enriching experience and that his ward was able to train with several top players.

“He practiced in the morning with Ruusuvuori, one of the emerging talents of the circuit. He also trained with Felix Auger-Aliassime, who is close to entering the top ten,” Arbino said.An enriching experience made even more noble by the presence and constant dialogue with Toni Nadal. Ideal conditions, with 20 degrees of temperature,” the coach added.
