With the French Open coming up, one question that has been on every tennis fan’s mind is about Rafael Nadal’s participation in his home Grand Slam. With the injury concerns still an alarming issue, the Spaniard is quite unsure about his participation.
Currently, the 37-year-old has gotten off to a great start at the Mutua Madrid Open, reaching the R3 already. Despite not being 100% fit, he continues to play in Madrid for the very last time in his career. However, this time, the Spanish legend has finally opened about his particiation in the much-awaited French open.

He stated that he would not participate in the Grand Slam if he continued to not feel 100%. In the next press conference, he gave a little more insight on his plans for the French Open, given that it’s his favorite tournament.
Roland Garros is the most important tournament of my tennis career, no? And all the things that I lived there, enjoyed there, stay in my heart forever. So it’s not a thing about losing or winning. It's about going on court there with the feeling that I can fight and I can be competitive and, you know, let's go on court and dream about what can happen, no?Said Rafael Nadal via Mutua Madrid Open
Given that he has only played in a best-of-three-sets tournament so far in the season, Nadal remains unsure about participating in a 5-setter tournament. Even though he admitted that his body is feeling better, the added requirements and body stress come with playing 5-setter.
However, Nadal has one mindset as of now. He wants to make it or break it and is willing to play the Open only if he can dream about it.
Rafael Nadal pulls off a major win at the Mutua Madrid Open against Alex De Minaur
Spanish pro Rafael Nadal has gotten off to a flying start at the Madrid Open. After a first-round win against Darwin Blanch. However, the next match was better for the Spaniard, who was up against Alex De Minaur in the second round.

De Minaur had ousted Nadal in their last outing, but this time everything had changed. Nadal, who had gotten more momentum, played fabulous groundstrokes to put the Australian under pressure. He finally won the match in straight sets 7-6, 6-3.
Very important for me to be able to compete the whole match with a good level of tennis, and the body [held] well for a little bit over two hours.Said Rafael Nadal via Madrid Press
Now, the Spaniard will play the next round against an in-form Pedro Cachin. An important run for the ‘King of Clay’, who will try to head into the next tournaments high in confidence and form.
