‘We spend more time with each other than we do with our wives,’ Rafael Nadal on his physio

‘We spend more time with each other than we do with our wives,’ Rafael Nadal on his physio

Rafael Nadal is a 20-time Grand Slam champion and is nearing 20 years since he made his debut. At the age of 34, he is still fit as a bull and for this, huge credit goes to his Nadal’s physiotherapist since the 2006 season, Rafael Maymo.

Maymo might be the physiotherapist of the 17 Grand Slam title champion but his duties go far beyond those of taking care of the body of the Spanish tennis player. He has been on Nadal’s side almost every tournament and is the backbone of Nadal’s team.

Rafael Nadal will be grateful for every day he gets on the court, considering his persistent injury over the last few years. He also missed the follow up tournaments after the Australian Open 2021.

Nadal has many times mentioned that he cannot than Maymo enough for whatever he has done for him since 2006. He also said that they spend more time with each other than they do with their wives.

“He has been almost my shadow since 2006 so I can’t thank him enough for all the things,” Nadal said a couple of years ago.

“We spend more time with each other than we do with our wives,” Nadal said. “When I travel or when I visit the doctor: he is always with me. He is there in the tough moments.”

Nadal will play Andrey Rublev in the Quarter-Final of the Monte Carlo Masters on Friday.
