‘He’s always obsessed about records,’ Rafael Nadal targets Novak Djokovic and calls him ‘ambitious’

World No.3, Rafael Nadal created history last year at the Roland Garros when he lifted the title for a record-extending 13th time bringing him equal to friend and foe, Roger Federer in the no. of Grand Slam titles won. And this Clay season, he would want to create history by winning the French Open again and edging Federer.

But Novak Djokovic is probably Nadal’s greatest rival. The duo have played the most number of matches against each other and love to compete against each other. Recently, Nadal cheekily took a dig at Nole and said that records mean a lot to the Serb.

When asked about records, Nadal said: “He’s[Djokovic] more focused on just these things and it means a lot to him all of this stuff. Like he’s always saying and talking about these records and well done for him… but it’s not my approach to my tennis career.”

Nadal also said that he has a great ambition towards tennis but also cleared that his ambition is very different from Djokovic’s.

“I have a healthy ambition. Of course, I am ambitious, if not I would never be in the position I am today but I have probably a different kind of ambition than him, for example. I just keep going, keep doing what I’m doing and just try to put myself in a position to keep enjoying the tour and, of course, try to achieve as much as possible,” he said.

“I am super satisfied about the career I’m having. Not today, I was super satisfied years ago already but I am not making a step back in motivation because of that. I don’t get frustrated if I am losing one tournament, I am trying to approach the thing in a different way.”

Nadal is currently at Barcelona ahead of the Barcelona Open where he is the first seed.
