Carlos Alcaraz made his dream come true after beating Alexander Zverev to win his first French Open title. The Spaniard made history by becoming the youngest since Rafael Nadal to win the clay major. While celebrating his victory Nadal took to congratulate the youngster on his new career feat.
Nadal, who is known as the ‘King of Clay’ had dominated the French Open for almost two decades lifting the title 14 times. He was fit to play at this year’s Roland Garros after missing last year’s edition due to injury. The 38-year-old was drawn to face Zverev in the first round and was beaten by the German in straight sets.
He exited the Roland Garros leaving the door for a return even though he had previously said this season was his final tour. Elsewhere, his young countryman Alcaraz kept performing at the highest level beating every opponent convincingly to reach the final of the French Open. He was just returning from a forearm injury that saw him miss three clay tournaments.
Nevertheless, the Spaniard didn’t show any sign of serious struggles, as he played aggressively to beat Zverev in five sets and claim the title. Nadal quote-tweeted an X post from the official Roland-Garros account on Sunday which read: ‘CARLOS I, PRINCE OF CLAY.’
Congratulations Carlos Alcaraz for this immense victory!!! Big!!! Very happy for your success!!!.Rafael Nadal wrote on X
