Carlos Moya, the coach of Rafael Nadal, confirmed on Thursday (July 25th) that the Spaniard has faced a setback and that they have to wait for the results to confirm his participation at the Paris Olympics.
This week, the 14-time French Open champion returned to Roland Garros for his last-ever Olympics. Nadal had revealed that this year could be his last on tour and hoped to give it his all at the Olympics, which he considers higher than a Grand Slam event.
The whole of the Spanish team has arrived and started practice. Some pictures were taken during those sessions and revealed that Nadal was repeatedly holding his right thigh as he sat down. Soon, his team even canceled a practice session on Friday (July 25th).
With many rumors spreading about Nadal being in serious trouble, soon Carlos Moya had to reveal what has happened to his player. He told Spanish radio that Nadal experienced some discomfort, which worsened when he practiced more, so they decided to stop and take a rest day.
I can't assure you that Nadal will play. It was a setback, and we decided that today Rafa would rest and not train to recover. We are going to give ourselves 48 hours, we have to wait,Carlos Moya told Spanish radio.
Unfortunately, Nadal is not the only one that will suffer from this. He is set to play doubles with Carlos Alcaraz, and upon withdrawal, the World No.3 cannot re-match and will also have to withdraw from doubles.
