Childhood friends Jayson Tatum and Matthew Tkachuk both won titles this year

Jayson Tatum and Matthew Tkachuk, childhood friends and former classmates at Chaminade College Preparatory School in St. Louis, have both won championships in their respective sports. Tatum won his first NBA championship with the Boston Celtics last week, while Tkachuk won the Stanley Cup with the Florida Panthers on Monday night.

The school community is thrilled to have produced champions in both the NBA and NHL this year. Matthew Tkachuk gave a shout-out to St. Louis and Chaminade during the Panthers’ celebration.

Before becoming stars in their respective leagues, Jayson Tatum and Tkachuk were high school kids in St. Louis. Tkachuk even appeared in videos Tatum made for homework assignments. Now, they’re champions at the highest level, with Tatum leading the Celtics to an NBA title and Tkachuk helping the Panthers win, with his dad appearing emotional watching, the Stanley Cup.

JT struggled with his shot during the NBA Finals but still averaged 25 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game, while Tkachuk led the Panthers with 16 assists in the playoffs despite only having a goal and two assists in the Stanley Cup Final.
