The Kansas City Chiefs may have lost yet another of their wide receivers this offseason. Not to free agency but due to a run-in with the law. Rashee Rice, the rookie wide receiver of the team found himself in the middle of trouble after he allegedly crashed his Lamborghini SUV along with another driver, Theodore Knox who was also involved in the crash.
The arrest warrant affidavit obtained by The Dallas Morning News now reveals that Rashee Rice was driving his car at a speed of 119 mph moments before the crash on the Central Expressway. Rice and Knox now face one count of aggravated assault, a count of a collision involving serious bodily injury, and six counts of collision involving injury.
As per the police report, the March 30th incident involved Rice who was driving the Lamborghini SUV and Knox, driving a Corvette and speeding along Highway 75 near University Boulevard. The duo resorted to making “multiple maneuvers to get through traffic” which ultimately resulted in a chain reaction leading to drivers of four other vehicles crashing.
Rashee Rice ditched the car and fled from the scene of the accident
The speed limit on the highway was 70 miles per hour, this means Rice was nearly 50 miles above the legal limit.
The occupants of the Lamborghini and the Corvette all ran from the scene without stopping to determine if anyone needed medical help or providing their information. Two of the involved drivers were treated at the scene by Dallas Fire-Rescue for minor injuries and two occupants of another vehicle were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. The Dallas PD in their statement said
Rashee Rice turned himself in to the Dallas Police a day after an arrest warrant was issued in his name. He posted a bond worth $40,000 after being transferred to the DeSoto Regional Prison. Rice also issued a statement wherein he apologized for his conduct and took full responsibility for his actions.
So far, the NFL nor the Kansas City Chiefs have issued a statement concerning this incident. Things may not go in his favor and if he is convicted on any of the charges he risks facing imprisonment from 5 years to 20 years on some of the charges. The fact that marijuana was found in his car does not help his case either. The understanding as of now is that the league is closely watching the legal developments in this matter and will determine the quantum of punishment once the judicial proceedings come to an end.
