Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowler Rashid Khan struggled to withhold tears as he accepted his Man of the Match Award and dedicated it to his late mother following his excellent spell versus Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League 2020. Sunrisers Hyderabad who were winless prior to yesterday’s match faced Delhi Capitals at Abu Dhabi.

Put in to bat, Sunrisers scored 162 runs for the loss of 4 wickets courtesy good knocks from Jonny Bairstow and Kane Williamson. In the second innings, the SRH bowlers stifled the DC batsmen. DC found the going tough and fell short by 15 runs in the end. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Thangarasu Natarajan were excellent for SRH with their accurate line and length. However, the pick of the bowlers was the wily Afghan Rashid Khan who returned his best IPL figures of 3-14.

Rashid Khan was given the ‘Man of the Match’ award for his performance in the match. Speaking at the presentation, the leggie dedicated the award to his mother who passed away earlier in the year. He said, “Tough one-and-a-half year. First lost my dad, then my mom three-four months ago. She was my biggest fan. This award goes to them. when I sued to win an award, the whole night she used to talk to me. Tough times”

Talking about his performance in the match, “When I bowled the first ball, I knew if I bowl quicker and harder, you could get a turn. Then you have to bowl the length, a bit back of a length. The captain always backs me, and he tells me you know better. So he tells me, let me know what you want. Only If things are not going my way do you go to ask the captain what to do?” Rashid added.

“I think I don’t take pressure on myself that I have to create an impact. I keep calm and cool and focus on what I have to do. I look to do the basics right and enjoy the game,” Rashid said before signing off.
