Over the last few years, Afganistan spinner Rashid Khan has established himself as one of the greatest T20 bowlers of all time. His consistent performances for his country and various franchises around the world in various T20 leagues are testament to that. His name appears in most all time XIs selected when it comes to the shortest format.

However, since his return to action from injury earlier this year, Rashid Khan has been struggling to find his best form. He had an ordinary IPL with the Gujarat Titans and was taken to the cleaners quite often. The spinner, who is currently competing in The Hundred in England, faced a horror outing in his recent match.

The hundred ball format is a slightly curtailed version of T20 cricket, and Khan wasn’t able to bring out his best. Playing for the Oval Invincibles, Khan was up against the Birmingham Phoenix. To everyone’s shock, Khan was smoked for 59 runs off his 20 balls. Out of which his last 5 balls were hit for 26 runs by Liam Livingstone, creating havoc for the Invincibles.

Livingstone scored a fantastic 69 off 27 balls and saw his team home with two balls to spare in a 180 chase. Khan, with his horror spell, created two unwanted records for himself. 0/59 in 20 balls is the most expensive spell in the history of The Hundred.

Adding to the misery, this was also the most expensive spell of Khan’s illustrious T20 career. With a poor run in 2025, it will be interesting to see how quickly Khan is able to find his charm with the ball back.

Birmingham Phoenix finally get their first win of The Hundred 2025

The Birmingham Phoenix haven’t had the ideal start to its Hundred campaign this time around. Two back to back heavy losses meant they were on the back foot right from the get go. They were no match for the Trent Rockets as they went down to them comfortably. Rockets just took 78 balls to chase the 122 set by Phoenix.

In their next match against Southern Brave, once again, Phoenix were way off color. Restricted to just a mere 106 in their allotted 100 balls, they were way behind in the game. The Brave just took 81 balls to get to the total and handed Phoenix their second straight defeat.

A third loss would mean that they would be close to elimination early in the tournament. Thus, the side made sure they bounced back against the defending champions, Oval Invincibles, who had won both their previous matches. The Invincibles got to a very healthy 180, and considering Phoenix’s batting woes, that was a target beyond imagination in their current campaign.

They were once again’ in trouble, losing Ben Duckett early, however, they recovered with cameos from Will Smeed and Joe Clarke. Liam Livingstone entered at a crucial time and took on the best bowler of the Invincibles, Rashid Khan.

He killed the chase and made sure Phoenix got their first win of the season against the top team of the competition. Phoenix will next face Northern Superchargers at Leeds. Phoenix, who made it to the Elimination stages last time, would need to string a few wins here if they are to cross their final position from last year.
