It has been a tough 24 hours for the Baltimore Ravens tight end Isaiah Likely, who was inches from winning the Week 1 game against the Kansas City Chiefs. On top of that, his statements after the game made matters worse.
Likely fired warning shots that losing 27-20 to the Chiefs was their one and only bad performance in the season, and they will only get better from here on out. It didn’t sit well with most Chiefs fans, who mocked the third-year tight end for talking a big game after losing it.
Even the players chimed in with their take on the matter. Chiefs safety Justin Reid, who had 8 tackles and 1 assist in the game, thought Isaiah Likely played really well, and his post-game statement was amusing.
Well, it's the first game of the season; I hope it's the worst game that anyone plays. Because if you're peaking right now, then that's bad news come playoff time. He had a good game himself, so credit to him.Justin Reid told Kay Adams on Up & Adams
The 2x Super Bowl winner was ready with a fitting reply, and to make it even more cliche, he wore the AFC Championship winner’s hat during the interview.
Reid highlighted that if the Ravens are going to improve, then so will the Chiefs because they weren’t at full strength on Thursday.
There are ways that we are going to improve. We're going to get Hollywood Brown back here in a couple of weeks. We're going to continue to tighten on the defensive side of the ball.Justin Reid said
Justin Reid pointed out why Isaiah Likely should worry about the Ravens before making flamboyant statements
Likely had 9 receptions for 111 yards and 1 touchdown in the game. He was far and above the best receiver on the night, but the Chiefs did their work diligently too, excluding the false starts.
While Reid took care of the backfield with Nick Bolton, rookie Xavier Worthy and second-year receiver Rashee Rice pounded in the yards inside the Ravens’ half. Reid knows that they might face the Ravens once more if both end up in the postseason.
That Patrick Mahomes-Xavier Worthy connection is just going to get more and more special as we keep going… Pat [Patrick Mahomes] get that all-time passing leader record—he's going to show up in the season too. So, I don't see the Kansas City Chiefs being the same team that we were yesterday. I see us getting better as we keep going.Justin Reid added

Worthy scored 2 touchdowns on his NFL debut—-1 rushing and 1 receiving. Rice was the best receiver for the Chiefs with 7 catches for 107 yards.
Despite all that, Reid knows their hard work would have gone down the drain if the refs allowed Isaiah Likely’s touchdown to stand. Fortunately for the reigning Super Bowl champs, Likely’s toe nullified everything he did on the night.
