“Ready for the next”- Valentina Shevchenko calls upon the UFC to set up her next fight
Valentina Shevchenko
When it’s all set and done and when it will be time to finally hang up her gloves, Valentina Shevchenko will be one of the first names that will be in the discussion when talking about the greatest female athletes in all of combat sports. The UFC Flyweight Champion has been ruling her division in the world’s biggest MMA promotion for the past 3 plus years and has successfully defended the title a record 6 times, making her the female champion for most title defences in UFC history.
Out of her 22 wins in 25 career fights, Shevchenko has finished 15 of her fights, almost equally by knockouts or submissions. It’s hard to see anyone dethroning Shevchenko for the next few years considering her fight game is levels above not just her division but amongst most of the entire UFC roster.
Valentina Shevchenko ready to start 2022 with a fight, aiming for seventh title defense
Valentina Shevchenko’s victory for the flyweight championship hasn’t been an easy start as well. When the belt was left vacant after Nicco Montano relinquished the title, Shevchenko was made to earn the strap by fighting the former UFC strawweight champion of 5 title defences, Joanna Jedrcejcyzk. Shevchenko was recognised from there only as someone who’s destined for greatness as she made easy work of the legendary Polish MMA fighter and became a new queen for the then division in its baby stages.
Now, Shevchenko has incredible victories over Jedrzejczyk, Lauren Murphy, Jessica Eye, Katlyn Chookagian, Jennifer Maia, Jessia Andrade, Liz Carmouche, Holly Holm and current UFC Bantamweight Champion Julianna Pena. Now after her last fight in September against Murphy, Schevchenko wants to make another statement now. As she has finally said it on Twitter and called out the UFC to make arrangements for her next fight.
Where do you put Shevchenko amongst the greatest women athletes in combat sports? For someone who came of a striking background yet managed to dominate her opponents fluently on the ground too, she is the complete package of a true mixed martial artist. Do you see any holes in her game, will we ever be able to see one in the future except for her slowing down when she ages?
