Real Madrid forward Jovic hasn’t been able to break into the Real Madrid first team and has been a flop signing so far. The player arrived in a 60 million Euros deal from Frankfurt in 2019 amid huge fanfare. However, he hasn’t able to impress Zidane and now seems to be caught up in a controversy involving Covid protocols. The player allegedly travelled to Serbia amidst the lockdown and didn’t quarantine for the mandatory 14 days.

Jovic receives a six month jail sentence

The court gave a six month jail sentence to the player for breaking Covid protocols. However, the player has agreed to pay a fine of 30,000 Euros to avoid the jail time in Serbia. The player had basically travelled back to Serbia in march and was caught partying which meant that he had effectively broken the compulsory 14 days quarantine period.

This news even angered the President of Serbia and prompted him to say, “I think they [Jovic and Nikola Ninkolic of Serie B side Ascoli] are both sorry for what they have done, but I would like to make it very clear to them that the lives of our people are much more important than their millions.”

The player’s Dad believes his son was framed and said, “If he has to go to prison, let him go to prison. If he’s guilty of wrongdoing, then I’m completely in agreement with the [Serbian] president and prime minister, [Aleksandar Vucic and Ana Brnabic]. I support the decision – but only if he was in the wrong. He came to Belgrade and shut himself in his apartment straight away. The photos showing him out having fun are from Spain and were taken months ago.”
