Serena Williams’ Ex-Coach Thinks ‘This’ Is the Reason Why Carlos Alcaraz Keeps Defeating Jannik Sinner
Carlos Alcaraz improved his head-to-head record to 7-4 over World No.1 Jannik Sinner after winning the Italian Open.

Why does Carlos Alcaraz keep defeating Jannik Sinner? In their 11 matches against each other, Sinner has emerged victorious only four times. The young rivals were pitted against each other for the first time in a final of a Masters 1000 or above tournament. It was in the Italian Open final where Alcaraz ended Sinner’s 26-match winning streak with a 7-5(5), 6-1 victory.
According to Serena Williams‘ former coach Rennae Stubbs, the rivalry is like a “Roger-Rafa thing“. Stubbs stated that Sinner is a “world-class skier” and his height helps him move better, but not on clay. She said on The Rennae Stubbs Tennis Podcast:
He [Sinner] is taller, his center of gravity on clay is not as good, his sliding ability is not as good because he has to move differently. Alcaraz has a lower center of gravity, he is a natural mover on clay, and he has way more variety. Alcaraz can hit the ball big but he chooses not to on clay because he chooses not to. He hits the spin, he has more spin so it gets out of Sinner’s hitting zone more.
With this win, Alcaraz became a seven-time Masters 1000 champion, denying Sinner his fifth title in the same category. Sinner was aiming to become only the second Italian after Adriano Panatta to clinch the home title.
The Italian Open was his second tournament of the season after the Australian Open as he had to stay on the sidelines for three months because of the doping scandal. Sinner was searching for his second title of the season in Rome as in Melbourne, he defended the crown by breezing past World No.3 Alexander Zverev.
Carlos Moya rubbishes rumors of coaching partnership with Jannik Sinner
Jannik Sinner‘s coach Darren Cahill will leave his team after this season. After the Italian Open, a report from Bolshe! stated that Rafael Nadal‘s former coach Carlos Moya would be joining the Italian ace’s team in 2026.

The 48-year-old joined the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s team in 2016 and worked with him until he retired at the 2024 Davis Cup. While talking to Radio Nacional de Espana, Moya rubbished the rumors linking up to Sinner with a strong-worded message. He said:
Sinner's coach from next year? A fake news as big as a house.
Cahill joined Sinner’s team in July 2022, and under him as well as coach Simone Vagnozzi, the 23-year-old lifted three Grand Slam titles and one ATP Finals, and reached the top of the rankings, ending the 2024 season as the Year-End No.1 player.
Jannik Sinner’s ex-girlfriend reveals whether she’s back with the tennis ace
Jannik Sinner started dating Italian model Maria Braccini in 2020 and broke up a year later. But in 2022, they reconciled and it’s not clear when they ended their relationship.

Last year at the French Open, the three-time Grand Slam champion confirmed that he started dating fellow tennis ace Anna Kalinskaya. But ahead of the Italian Open Sinner confirmed that he is not in a relationship with anyone after he was spotted with Russian model Lara Leito, indirectly confirming the break up with Kalinskaya.
After the Italian Open, Braccini posted a few pictures of her time in Rome, again sparking the reunion speculation with Sinner. Braccini, however, has made it clear that she is not in a relationship with anyone at present.

Sinner next will be playing in the French Open where he produced his best performance when he reached the semifinals last year, losing a five-set thriller to Carlos Alcaraz. The reigning US Open champion was scheduled to play the Hamburg European Open but has decided to withdraw from it.
