The way Carlos Alcaraz eked out the win at the French Open will for sure be remembered in the years to come. Alcaraz overcame a two-set deficit to clinch, and in the fourth set, he saved three championship points to deny Jannik Sinner his first title in the clay-court Major.
It was the first time they met in a Grand Slam final, and as expected, the match was nothing short of an epic cinema. The defeat, despite being so close to the win, left Sinner devastated.
But instead of whining or letting the heartbreak get the better of him, he set to work to take his revenge. At Wimbledon, he avenged the French Open defeat, denying the 22-year-old a three-peat.
The defeat made the Spaniard work even harder. At the US Open next, he produced, for sure, his best Grand Slam performance. Only once did he drop a set, against Sinner, in the final, defeating the Italian in four sets to avenge his Wimbledon disappointment.
This is why former player from Italy, Renzo Furlan, thinks Alcaraz needs to be wary of the four-time Grand Slam champion if they face each other in the French Open final next year.
With Sinner, we’re talking about a player who is always ready to push himself further. That’s what you call the mentality. After Wimbledon, it was the Spaniard’s turn to take the lead, and after the US Open, Jannik’s. I’m certain we’ll see him looking for revenge at Roland-Garros, because it’s the only Grand Slam he’s missing. But he’ll do everything he can to give his best everywhere.
Renzo Furlan told Italian channel Sky
Sinner was the winner when they met for the last time this year. At the ATP Finals, the 24-year-old extended his winning streak on indoor hardcourts to 31 matches with a straight-set win over Alcaraz in the title clash.
Sinner trails 6-10 in the head-to-head matchups against his arch-rival. They will meet once again next year, at an exhibition event in Incheon, South Korea, scheduled to be held prior to the Australian Open, the main draw of which is set to start on January 18.
Paolo Bertolucci hopes to see Jannik Sinner win the 2026 French Open
At the French Open, Jannik Sinner will bid for the Career Grand Slam. As per Corriere dello Sport, two Italian former players, Paolo Bertolucci and Adriano Panatta, were discussing next year’s clay-court Major during which the former expressed his wish to see his compatriot Sinner come out victorious.

I hope Sinner wins Paris. They’ve been dragging us around for 50 years with this Panatta being the last finalist! Well, it looks like who knows what the hell you’ve done, with that s—— physique!
Panatta is the only player from Italy to win the French Open in the Open Era. Back in 1976, he defeated Harold Solomon in four sets in the final.
But before the French Open, Sinner will be focusing on the Australian Open, where he will be chasing the three-peat. In the previous two finals, he defeated Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Zverev, respectively.
If he adds one more Australian Open to his trophy cabinet, he will become the second man in the Open Era after Novak Djokovic to win three consecutive titles in the first Major of the season. This year, the World No.2 reached the final of every Major and won six titles from 10 finals.
Apart from the ATP Finals, Australian Open, and Wimbledon, Sinner won titles at the China Open, Vienna Open, and the Paris Masters. He also made the finals of the Italian Open and Cincinnati Masters, losing both to Carlos Alcaraz.
