If reports are to be believed then Jannik Sinner will leave for Paris today, but doubt still looms over his participation at the Grand Slam event there. Sinner hurt his right hip during the Madrid Open last month, as a result of which he opted out of the quarterfinal match.

Since then, the World No.2 has stayed out of courts, missing the Italian Open as well. After sustaining the injury, he said in a press conference that if he doesn’t recover fully before the Roland Garros, he may end up not playing for a long time.

One thing is sure, if I have not 100 percent recovered I will take more time out as I do not want to lose three years of my career.
Jannik Sinner said in a press conference.

Sinner, however, has started his training for the event in Paris, which is set to start on May 26th. He posted some pictures on his Instagram, where, in one of the pictures, he could be seen holding a racket in his hand, while in another picture, he was having a discussion with coach Simone Vagnozzi.

The right hip injury hampered his progress this year. He started this season by winning his first Grand Slam title at the Australian Open by beating Daniil Medvedev in the final.

The Italian then went on to win two more titles, in Rotterdam and Miami. Even if he doesn’t participate at Roland Garros, he has a high chance of becoming the World No.1 for the first time if defending champion Novak Djokovic fails to reach the final.

Alexander Zverev said

The World No.2 made his debut in his home tournament in 2019 and his best result came in the 2022 edition when he made it to the quarterfinals. Last year, he reached the fourth round where he lost to Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo.
