UFC 306 emanated from the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada. Since the TKO merger, WWE and UFC have collaborated in some way or another on several occasions. This continued last night, as the WWE representation in attendance for the event were the father-son duo of Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio. However, the Mysterios were spotted sitting separately in the crowd.
Dominik and Rey have taken their beef outside of the wrestling world. The Luchador legend’s son started his WWE career in 2020, as the pair remained a team on screen. Two years later, Dom shocked the WWE Universe when he betrayed his father at the Clash at the Castle PLE. Moreover, the third-generation star joined The Judgment Day, kicking off his rise to stardom.
After refusing to lay hands on his son for months, Rey finally had enough when Dominik insulted his own mother. This led to a WrestleMania match between the two, which the WWE Hall of Famer won. The pair would once again square off at the Grandest Stage of Them All a year later. Dom’s losing streak against his father continued as the veteran teamed with Andrade to defeat his son and Santos Escobar.
Over the past few months, Rey and Dom have continued their rivalry on multiple occasions. In fact, The Judgment Day member has since gone on to pin his “deadbeat” dad on Raw. Rey Mysterio has expressed his desire to face the former NXT North American Champion in his retirement bout. Further, the latter pitched an idea for a future “Mask vs. Hair” bout. Needless to say, the chances of both happening are very high.
Wrestling fans laud Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio’s commitment to kayfabe at UFC 306
The WWE Universe heaped praise on the Mysterio family for keeping ‘kayfabe’ alive during their appearances at UFC 306. One fan compared it to The Undertaker, who rarely broke character outside of wrestling. Some users said they couldn’t blame Dominik Mysterio for not wanting to sit close to his “deadbeat” father.
Another fan pitched an MMA fight in the octagon between the duo. A few users also pointed out how Dom broke kayfabe at the same time by sitting next to his real-life partner instead. Of course, this is in reference to his on-screen relationship with Liv Morgan.
A fan mocked Rey by claiming that Dominik wasn’t his son, alluding to Eddie Guerrero being the latter’s father instead. Meanwhile, a user hilariously stated that the WWE Hall of Famer looked drunk and tired.
