WWE’s acquisition of AAA during WrestleMania 41 weekend in April 2025 is already paying dividends. This week, the company staged its second Worlds Collide event of the year at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, featuring six high-stakes matchups.
In the main event, Dominik Mysterio defeated El Hijo del Vikingo to capture the AAA Mega Championship, making history as the first superstar to simultaneously hold titles in both WWE and AAA. This victory is especially significant for Mysterio, who came up short in his bid for the same title back at Triplemania 33 in August.
In that fatal four-way match against Dragon Lee, El Grande Americano, and Vikingo, he was screwed over by AJ Styles, the man he was feuding with at the time for the Intercontinental Championship. In Vegas, the crowd erupted for ‘Dirty Dom’, loudly chanting his nickname while Vikingo was mostly booed. The match was packed with absolute chaos.
At one point, Vikingo hit a 450 splash, only for Finn Balor and JD McDonagh to interfere. Dragon Lee and Rey Mysterio eventually ran down to even the odds, but the drama kept piling up. Vikingo nearly had the match won after a 630 senton, but El Grande Americano yanked the referee out of the ring.
Moments later, Dom capitalized with a loaded mask headbutt and a frog splash to secure the victory. Earlier in the night, ‘Dirty Dom’ had mocked Mysterio, demanding that his father be the one to crown him champion.
That taunt became reality after the three-count, as the Hall of Famer was forced to strap the AAA Mega Championship around his son’s waist. ‘Dirty Dom’ then celebrated with Judgment Day and embraced El Grande Americano, declaring himself the superior Mysterio.

The buzz around Mysterio’s win was undeniable, highlighted by WWE Hall of Famer JBL making a bold comparison. He likened Dirty Dom to Mahatma Gandhi, noting that just as Gandhi returned from prison to lead India to independence, Mysterio has risen from adversity to now hold both the AAA Mega Championship and the Intercontinental Title.
Positive reports emerge regarding Rey Mysterio’s WWE return status
Alongside Dominik Mysterio’s success at Worlds Collide, there’s also good news for his father as he moves closer to a WWE return. According to PWInsiderElite.com, the Hall of Famer is in the final stages of recovering from a torn groin injury and could soon be back in action.
For the unversed, the former World Champion has been sidelined for five months, leaving a big gap on the SmackDown roster. The Latino World Order leader is expected to report to the WWE Performance Center in Orlando next week as part of the final step toward medical clearance. While not yet officially cleared, this indicates his comeback is near.

The injury occurred during the SmackDown before WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas, when Mysterio tore his groin in a six-man tag match. The setback forced him to miss his planned bout with El Grande Americano at WrestleMania 41, with Rey Fenix stepping in as his replacement. Though Mysterio initially hoped to return last month, recovery took longer than anticipated.
🚨| Per PWInsider, Rey Mysterio is very close to returning to the ring following his injury. He is expected to be at the Performance Center next week as part of his return process.

Before the injury, he was in the midst of a heated feud with Santos Escobar and Legado Del Fantasma. Meanwhile, his son has thrived on Raw, enjoying a dominant run as Intercontinental Champion, and is now holding the AAA Mega Championship as well. With the former World Champion’s return looming, fans are eager to see how this father-son dynamic will play out moving forward.
