On the final SmackDown episode before the Draft, the promotion brought about new changes. One of them was the introduction of the WWE Tag Team Championships. Triple H handed a new set of titles to the SmackDown holders, Grayson Waller and Austin Theory. While A-Town Down Under thought they wouldn’t step inside the ring again, they competed in a dark match after the show. The champions squared off against Rey Mysterio and Dragon Lee.

After a back-and-forth encounter, Waller pinned the legendary luchador to pick up the win. Hence, A-Town Down Under successfully defended their Tag Team titles for the first time since winning them at WrestleMania. Whether or not the dark bout leads to a future program is yet to be seen. Usually, such matches point towards a potential rivalry down the line.

Unlike the cocky heels, Rey Mysterio was notably absent from last night’s taping. However, his LWO member, Carlito, continued the faction’s warfare against Santos Escobar. Meanwhile, Waller and Theory disrespected the WWE CCO during the title presentation. Later, a fatal-four way tag team match took place, which determined their new #1 contenders.

The Street Profits defeated Authors of Pain, Legado del Fantasma, and New Catch Republic to earn an opportunity against the Tag Team Championships. Following their win in the dark match, it will be interesting to see how Grayson Waller and Austin Theory perform in their on-screen bout against the experienced duo of Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins.

Rey Mysterio provided update on in-ring retirement

At the age of 49, Rey Mysterio continues to prove why he’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. While most stars hang up their boots at this age, the Master of the 619 is still going strong. However, the legend has previously indicated that he would retire at the age of 50. As such, Mysterio recently provided an update on his future plans.

In an interview with Metro UK, the former WWE Champion teased that he might go longer than he initially planned to. Mysterio revealed that he is physically prepared and motivated at the moment to compete inside the ring. Nonetheless, fans are enjoying what is left of the Hall of Famer’s career.

While he has achieved almost every accolade in wrestling, many potential opponents lie in wait for him. At this year’s WrestleMania, he once again got the better of his son, Dominik Mysterio, in tag team action. Therefore, a retirement match against The Judgment Day member in the future might be the way to go for Rey Mysterio.
