American former football cornerback Richard Sherman declared that the San Francisco 49ers have entered a panic mode after the recent loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The 49ers are currently third in the NFC West with just two wins through five games.

The 49ers, after a solid start against the New York Jets, lost two games in succession against the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Rams. They showed signs of bouncing back with a win over the New England Patriots last week before the Week 5 debacle. In the scorching heat of Santa Clara, the Jonathan Gannon boys emerged victorious with a 23-24 score.

Speaking on “The Richard Sherman Podcast”, the NFL veteran raised alarms about the 49ers’ performance in Levi’s Stadium on Sunday. He feels that despite the Niners being the more talented team, they have failed to win matches – against “bottom dwellers” of NFC West, the Cardinals.

My panic meter’s at a 10, it’s at 11. It’s panic mode because these are two unacceptable division losses to the bottom dwellers of your divisionYou’re not winning this game and you’re the more talented team walking into the stadium each and every time.

Sherman pointed out that there are many excuses the team can put across. There’s Christian McCaffrey still on the sidelines with his bilateral Achilles tendonitis, there was the blistering heat and red uniforms. Sherman said that these are games that the 49ers could have dominated but got dominated instead.

It’s tough to watch, it was tough to watch this game, especially in the second half, Brandon Aiyuk finally gets to shine but now we turn the ball over three times. You know, it’s like you fix one problem, something else breaks. That seems to be the luck of the draw this season with the San Francisco 49ers.

He also expressed his frustration at the number of times the Niners turned the ball over. Furthermore, Sherman commented on fixing a problem, new problems arise from somewhere else.

Albeit the loss, the 49ers only have a loss more than the first-place Seattle. The team can alleviate some of Sherman’s fears when they play Seattle next week – a win could put them in the top position. The game would be challenging as Geno Smith and the squad look forward to washing away the Giants’ humiliation.

The San Francisco 49ers need to fix their red-zone issues

The 2024 season has been unkind to the Super Bowl favorites, like the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals. On the other hand, the Kansas City Chiefs might as well walk with a three-peat so smoothly with their undefeated run.

The San Francisco 49ers dominated the last two seasons with back-to-back division titles. They had the best touchdown percentage last year, however, this year they are abysmal. The Niners are 30th, only ahead of the struggling Miami Dolphins and New England Patriots.

They will need to fix their red zone moving into the next games or else probably will end up worst in the division. The 49ers failed to score a touchdown after reaching into the red zone five times in a game for the first time since 2017. The sad part is this was supposed to be one of their last years in the championship window.

The issues are persisting in play calling and the 5-yard line being a troublesome experience for the 49ers. Their statistics are worthy of praise until the last five yards when they just can’t get it. As they play another division rival the Seattle Seahawks, the 49ers need to study the film, understand their issues, and move ahead.
