Former Kentucky swimmer Riley Gaines has slammed Megan Rapinoe. The 24-year-old lashed at the Ex-soccer star as she continued to urge the NCAA to allow trans athletes from competing against women.
According to reports, the NCAA Board of Governors will have a meeting on the upcoming Thursday. In this meeting, the body is expected to discuss the issue regarding the participation of transgender athletes into women’s sports and have a vote on whether to allow them or not.
Riley Gaines has been pushing for the ban of trans athletes in women’s events for a long time after she went up against trans swimmer Lia Thomas. On the other hand, Megan Rapinoe has shown her support to the trans athletes and has encouraged the inclusion of them in women’s sports which led to many blasting her.
In a letter from the LGBTQ advocacy group, Athlete Ally, which contained signatures of Rapinoe and her fiancee, Sue Bird, the group pleaded the NCAA to not ban transgender athletes. The group called upon the body to be on the “right side” of history.
We call on you to be on the right side of history and affirm that sport is truly for us all. Do not ban transgender women from NCAA women’s sports. The letter read
Reacting to this, Gaines took a dig at the two-time World Cup winner and called her out on X. The swimmer claimed nobody would have known her if it wasn’t for women’s sports.
Megan Rapinoe, in typical virtue-signaling fashion, is pulling up the ladder behind her. No one would know who Megan Rapinoe is it weren't for women's sports lol.Riley Gaines on X
Riley Gaines praises group of high school girls for refusing to compete against trans athlete
Over the past 12 months, Riley Gaines has become a women’s advocate and has continued to fight against the inclusion of trans athletes in women’s sporting activities. She has urged several women to withdraw from events if they went up against a biological male.
A group of high school girls did just that. Recently, several girls refused to compete in a shotput event after they learned that a trans athlete was participating in the competition. Gaines would later go on to praise this group for their bravery.
One of those students would later take part in a press conference and give her thoughts regarding their decision. During her speech, Gaines was seen standing beside her. Later she would share the video on her X account and labeled them as “heroes“.
One of the five middle schoolers who refused to compete against boy in women's shot put gave remarks at a press conference in WV today. She specifically called out @ACLU and their disregard for women. These five girls are heroes.Riley Gaines on X
It now remains to be seen what action does the NCAA take on Thursday. It is likely that whatever decision they make, there will be some heavy debates regarding it.
