Manchester United succumbed to a 3-0 loss at Old Trafford to rivals Liverpool. The Red Devils were thoroughly beaten by Arne Slot‘s men, who had Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah to thank for the three points. While Liverpool players did their best, Casemiro was heavily criticized for being in the wrong on two separate occasions in the game.
After being dispossessed twice leading up to goals for the opposition, former Liverpool man Jamie Carragher did not go soft in his criticism of the player. Even though Carragher appeared to sympathize with the Brazilian for his first error, he claimed that being knocked over in the build-up was a sad sight. In response to the Englishman’s claim, former United man and club legend Rio Ferdinand came to Casemiro’s defense.
I just think it's really disrespectful given what my man's won. There's more to it than just he's made a couple of mistakes.Rio Ferdinand said on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast
Additionally, Ferdinand also claimed that Casemiro has been United’s ‘best’ player in the first two League games.
United teammates defend Casemiro after ‘horrendous’ display against Liverpool
Former Real Madrid man and Champions League winner Casemiro has been far from his best in recent games. Costly errors against Liverpool set off a chain of events that culminated in Rio Ferdinand’s response to Carragher. Additionally, the midfielder’s wife Anna Mariana also posted a picture of his trophy cabinet in response to all the criticism.
Teammate Bruno Fernandes came to defend his teammate as per reports and convinced the dressing room that it was upon the team to turn their season around. The Red Devils haven’t had the best of starts to their season and have lost both of their two previous games in the Premier League.
Erik ten Hag and his staff have no intention of letting the defensive midfielder leave for the Saudi Pro League as the club sent off its players for the international break. Casemiro however, will take some much needed time off to regroup and return to training in good shape. The 32-year-old has not been called up to represent Brazil for the first set of games against Ecuador and Paraguay.
