Alex Michelsen revealed why Jannik Sinner told him to stop saying sorry to him. During an interview, the 20-year-old recalled what happened when he played against the World No. 1.

Michelsen met Sinner twice, at the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open. They clashed in the second round in Cincinnati which Sinner won in straight sets. As Michelsen was also playing doubles and reached the final, he met Sinner every day in the locker room where both chatted.

He actually told me I was saying sorry too much because I tried to keg him. He knew I was going after him. And he’s like, ‘It’s a good play, don’t say sorry’. He is actually a super nice guy. Unfortunately, I am 0-2 against him. But I guess that’s okay because he is the number one player in the world.

Alex Michelsen told ATP Tour website

At the US Open, they met in the second round which Sinner again won in straight sets. The Italian had lifted both the Cincinnati Masters and the US Open, and along with these titles, Sinner took home six more, including the Australian Open and the ATP Finals. Michelsen on the other hand is yet to grab his first trophy and was 31-29 on the season.

Simone Vagnozzi reveals if he and Jannik Sinner ever argued

Jannik Sinner‘s coach Simone Vagnozzi recently won the Marche award with Italian player Elisabetta Cocciaretto and during an interview, he recalled the time when he had confronted the 23-year-old. This happened during the Shanghai Masters this year where Sinner reached the final and defeated four-time Shanghai Masters champion Novak Djokovic.

Have Sinner and I ever argued? It’s a good question. But I wouldn’t talk about an argument, if anything there was some discussion, some confrontation. Lately, on the court in Shanghai, I had to reprimand him for an impatient gesture. However, every day is different when you play, so it’s okay to let off steam, but Sinner has exemplary behavior in every situation.

Simone Vagnozzi said (via Corriere della Sera)

Vagnozzi has won the Coach of the Year award at the 2023 ATP Awards along with Sinner’s other coach Darren Cahill. The 41-year-old joined Sinner’s entourage in 2022 after the player parted ways with coach Riccardo Piatti.

Vagnozzi and Cahill (who won the Coaching Excellence award given to him by Tennis Australia) are now focusing on the Australian Open where Sinner will be entering on his quest to defend the title.
