Robert Whittaker ranks Alex Pereira as one of the coolest fighters in the UFC. The former champion recently said it on his podcast and highlighted what made him incredibly cool. This is right after Pereira’s incredible title defense at UFC 300.
Robert Whittaker recently sat down for an episode on the MMArcade Podcast. Talking about the recent fights at the UFC 300 event, Whittaker eventually came to Pereira.
I got to say, he's got to be one of the coolest fighters at the moment, in my opinion. His walk out, he's just so stoic and strong and even like that bow and arrow thing he does with the scream, it's just so cool dude and then we look at his actual fighting prowess and the dude is just a phenom in the stand-up game.Robert Whittaker via the MMArcade Podcast
Alex Pereira suddenly appeared on the UFC scene and quickly rose to its highest rankings. With just eight fights under his belt, Pereira has already bagged two division titles. Whittaker said it was at UFC 300 when he noticed what makes Poatan such a fan favorite.
‘The Reaper’ revealed that when Poatan was in middleweight he was under the former champion’s radar. But as Pereira moved up to light heavyweight and grabbed the title, he has been able to observe his style and appreciate how he approaches fights.
Robert Whittaker says Alex Pereira’s celebration at UFC 300 was cringey
Robert Whittaker is not all praise for Alex Pereira. Poatan’s celebration gesture after he knocked down Jamahal Hill went viral on social media. However, Whittaker felt it was unsuitable for someone of Pereira’s stature.
After the referee separated him and Hill, Pereira stood up and did the popular gesture of viral Italian TikToker Kaby Lame. However, Whittaker found this to be the most disappointing thing of his fight.
The most disappointing thing of his fight was his cringey celebration… I knew it was meme-related. It's still cringey as hell. He's this cool Aztec warrior right? With face paint, screaming, bow and arrow, knocking dudes out left, right and center. Then he does a little child's meme on the end. Come on, dude.Robert Whittaker via the MMArcade Podcast
After his title defense, Poatan was rumored to move up to heavyweight at UFC 301. However, his manager revealed that is not happening because of the injuries Pereira sustained. Meanwhile, Whittaker has an upcoming fight against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC on ABC 6. It will be interesting to see if these two former middleweight champions ever cross paths in the octagon.
