Robert Whittaker and team turn to Israel Adesanya after fight against Paulo Costa reportedly off

With Paulo Costa vs Robert Whittaker reportedly off, due to Paulo Costa suffering from flu, Whittaker and his team have requested a title rematch against Israel Adesanya. Whittaker was supposed to fight Paulo Costa on the 17th of April – a fight which would have cemented the victor’s position as the number 1 ranked middleweight contender. Although there is a possibility that the fight might get booked for a later date, Whittaker is raring to get back to the octagon.

The news was first broken by Sporting News, who revealed that Robert Whittaker is willing to wait until Israel Adesanya becomes ‘middleweight division’ ready since he is coming off a loss against Jan Blachowicz in the light-heavyweight division.

The pair last met at UFC 243!

Israel Adesanya, meanwhile, is coming off a loss against Jan Blachowicz at the recently concluded UFC 259. Having conquered the middleweight division to the fullest, ‘The Last Stylebender’ decided to move to the light-heavyweight division. But things didn’t go as planned as he was handed the first loss in his professional MMA career by a strong and powerful Jan Blachowicz. At the post-fight interview, Adesanya expressed his desire to come back to the middleweight division and smash his opponents with his ‘iron black fists’.
