Robert Whittaker, who lost his middleweight title to Israel Adesanya last year in his homeland, got back on track when he defeated Jared Cannonier to regain the number 1 ranked middleweight contender spot. After, “The Reaper” got the best of Jared at UFC 254, there was some confusion regarding who he would be taking on next.

UFC President Dana White even claimed that Whittaker wasn’t willing to fight Adesanya. But, Whittaker himself clarified saying that he definitely has Adesanya in his mind and might as well fight with him in a rematch.

Speaking on this Eugene Bareman, City Kickboxing and Israel Adesanya’s coach revealed that all Izzy and his team have in mind was the Jan Blachowicz fight, and that the Robert Whittaker fight was nowhere near.

Speaking to Submission Radio, Bareman was quoted as saying, “The crosshairs are on Jan. Robert Whittaker may as well be outside of the scope. He’s not even anywhere near the crosshairs. So, like, yeah, we’re not even mentioning that name. All our focus is on the Blachowicz fight. At the moment, the battle that’s going on is not between the two fighters, it’s between the management teams of both fighters and the UFC. But that’s the battle going on now.”

With that said, it is pretty clear that Adesanya definitely has his sights set on Jan Blachowicz, which will see him move up a weight class. As for Robert Whittaker, he will have to beat Israel Adesanya somehow to become the undisputed UFC Middleweight Champion. Hopefully Adesanya takes on Whittaker some day!
