Third seed Carlos Alcaraz won his second successive Wimbledon title, beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets 6-2, 6-2, 7-6. The Spaniard has joined an elite list of players to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same year.
One of the names on that list is Rod Laver, who congratulated Alcaraz for his phenomenal performance in the Wimbledon final. The Australian legend tweeted on X, praising the Spaniard’s ‘talent, determination, and composure.’

Alcaraz has now won four Grand Slam titles in four Grand Slam finals, maintaining his 100% record in major title matches. Roger Federer holds the record in that category, having won his first seven Grand Slam finals before losing to Rafael Nadal at the 2006 French Open.
The Spaniard has handed Djokovic only his second straight-set Wimbledon final loss. The first came at the hands of Andy Murray, who defeated the Belgrade native 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 in the 2013 edition.
What next for Carlos Alcaraz after winning Wimbledon?
Carlos Alcaraz‘s victory over Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final wasn’t shocking, but the way he won was unexpected. Before the match, many predicted a repeat of last year’s five-set thriller.
The first game took 14 minutes, with Djokovic losing his serve, suggesting a long battle. However, Alcaraz quickly took control, winning the first two sets 6-2, 6-2, and never let the Serbian find his form, ultimately winning 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Djokovic has lost three out of ten Wimbledon finals, with two defeats against Alcaraz. The Spaniard has shown strength on all surfaces, winning majors on each. His impressive record includes a 12-1 fifth-set tally, showing his tenacity.
The 21-year-old has faced injuries recently, missing the 2022 ATP Finals and the Australian Open due to abdominal and hamstring issues. With the Olympics approaching on the Paris clay, where Alcaraz won his third Slam, the focus is on who can challenge him. Young players like Jannik Sinner, Holger Rune, and Ben Shelton are seen as potential contenders.
