Xavier Worthy wanted to play for the Kansas City Chiefs. The franchise enamored by his speed along with his ability to catch the ball at an elite level drafted him. With that move, the NFL world got excited to see the connection between the rookie and Patrick Mahomes. Except for a certain Rodney Harrison.

The former safety and current analyst with NBC was speaking with his colleagues about the upcoming matchup between the Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens. While speaking about what the Ravens should look out for, Harrison gave out an interesting take on the Chiefs rookie WR.

Jason Garrett keeps talking about a Xavier Worthy. He is a little skinny guy, he doesn’t scare me. I know he is fast, but he doesn’t scare me.
Rodney Harrison said

It seems Rodney Harrison was a bit premature in saying that Worthy’s weight and height would be an issue. The rookie wide receiver just showed that the rest of the NFL should be scared of the proposition of facing him.

In the first quarter of the season opener, with the Baltimore Ravens leading 7-0, Patrick Mahomes snapped the ball at the Ravens 21-yard line. With half of the Ravens’ defense moving towards Isiah Pacheco running to the left, Mahomes handed the ball to Xavier Worthy coming off the end around.

The speedy receiver gripped the ball with both hands and used his speed to blitz past the recovering Ravens defense. To the effect that none of them were fast enough to even put both hands on the 21-year-old as he waltzed into the end zone. The first touchdown of his NFL career was special, as the entire offense came over to congratulate him.

Xavier Worthy showing the NFL world his worth

The 5′ 11″ receiver was considered a high first round pick coming out of the Texas Longhorns program. But his reputation as a speedster took a massive boost after he blitzed the 40-yard dash at the NFL combine. Then it was a matter of which teams would take a chance on the wideout.

The Kansas City Chiefs did win the Super Bowl last season. But throughout that season, the most concerning part of their team was the receiving core. With Rashee Rice a major question mark after his run in with the law, the Chiefs did bring in Marquise Brown to take the lead. But Xavier Worthy was not into the future.

Their offense is built on Patrick Mahomes‘ ability to sling the ball anywhere accurately. Worthy’s speed will help the team take the top off of opposition defenses. That is exactly what he did in his first touchdown. Except, his speed left the Baltimore Ravens on the backfoot even before he reached the red zone. This sets up the WR for possibly a brilliant rookie season.
