Tony Godsick, the agent and long-term business partner of Roger Federer, has shed light on the Swiss star’s life after retirement. The Team8 CEO stated that Federer now has more time for his sponsors compared to his playing years, making him more valuable today.
Federer announced his retirement from professional tennis at the Laver Cup in 2022 but has not stayed out of the spotlight since. He has made significant strides commercially off the court.
When we started with the Laver Cup, and obviously we needed blue chip, amazing sponsors. Roger had a portfolio of blue-chip, amazing sponsors. Rolex is our founding sponsor. We have UBs there as well, and Mercedes. These are huge brands. On and Uniqlo as well. So he's been busy. So I actually tell those sponsors that he's more valuable now that he's not playing. He has time to spend with their customers and welcome the players, things like that.Tony Godsick in an interview with Front Office Sports
A prime example of Federer’s continued connection to the tour despite his retirement is the introduction of his new Wilson rackets. The 20-time Grand Slam champion launched the new RF Wilson rackets earlier this year and tested them at the Laver Cup a few days ago.
In addition to Wilson, Federer participated in the Federer: Last Twelve Days documentary, which aired on Amazon Prime Video. The Swiss Maestro has been a regular attendee at various tennis tournaments, including his most recent appearance at the US Open earlier this month.
Roger Federer reveals benefits of his retirement life
Roger Federer, the Swiss tennis legend, recently talked about life after retiring from the sport. He shared that staying involved with tennis has helped him avoid feeling out of place on the courts.
I'm happy I went back right away to some tournaments. I feel I ripped the Band-Aid off quite quickly, and when I walk around the tennis sites, I still feel I belong there. I don't feel like an alien, which is a good thing because you can feel like that very quickly.Roger Federer said to the Japan Times
Federer, a 20-time Grand Slam champion, didn’t completely step away from the game after retiring two years ago. Soon after, he took on a new role as an ambassador for the Laver Cup.
I'm happy I'm still able to feel comfortable in a setting like this because it would be so much easier just to stay home, get comfortable at home, and realize you don't need to be on tour anymore.Roger Federer added
Federer, who played his final match at the Laver Cup, is now content with his decision to remain connected to tennis. He said this choice has brought him happiness. This year, Federer attended the Laver Cup, which started on September 20th. He was seen supporting Grigor Dimitrov and Team Europe during a match against Alejandro Tabilo.
