Roger Federer’s agent claims Jannik Sinner reminds him of Swiss maestro because he doesn’t ‘do stupid things’ off-court

Jannik Sinner is a three-time Grand Slam champion but he still has a long way to go to achieve what the Big 3 has done. Roger Federer‘s long-term agent Tony Godsick, while lauding Sinner for his exceptional run at the Australian Open, compared him with the Swiss maestro.

Sinner, after a memorable 2024 season, that saw him lift two Majors and the ATP Finals, and record an impressive 73-6 win-loss record, started the 2025 season on a high note. He dismantled Alexander Zverev in straight sets to defend his title at Melbourne Slam.

He is tipped to break numerous tennis records and challenge the Big 3’s records. But according to Godsick, at present, Sinner, though he is loved by fans from around the world, cannot replace Federer or Rafael Nadal. Godsick then revealed why the World No.1 reminds him of the 43-year-old.

I don’t know if he can become a legend like Roger or Rafa, but he is on the right path; he is serious, very professional, behaves well on the court, and does not do stupid things off it: in this, he reminds me of Roger.

Tony Godsick said during an interview with La Stampa (H/T: Tennis365)

Although Sinner and four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz have already established themselves as two of the best players of the game, Godsick believes they would be facing tough competition from several other youngsters. He thinks 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals champion Joao Fonseca, Alex Michelsen, Learner Tien, Jakub Mensik, and Tommy Paul will be challenging Sinner and Alcaraz in the near future.

Italian tennis great claims Jannik Sinner is not the greatest tennis player in the country’s history

Former Italian tennis player Nicola Pietrangeli said that Jannik Sinner is not the greatest tennis player from Italy. Pietrangeli, who lifted the French Open in 1959 and 1960, wished Sinner to win more in his career.

I don’t know if he’s the strongest Italian tennis player ever, he’s 23 years old. We’ll see when he’s 30. Now everyone’s talking about Sinner, but until two years ago, no one even knew who he was.

Nicola Pietrangeli told Adnkronos

According to Pietrangeli, Sinner’s victory over Alexander Zverev was a ‘walk in a park’ for the 23-year-old. The 91-year-old claimed that no player is at Sinner’s level at present and he would only suffer a defeat if he ‘slept badly or is feeling unwell’.

After the Australian Open, Sinner was scheduled to play the Rotterdam Open but he withdrew from the tournament. As he needed rest, he flew back to Italy. He won the title last year with a straight-set win over Alex de Minaur.
