For the past couple of months, there have been debates as to who will end Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz’s dominance on tour. The likes of Jack Draper, Joao Fonseca, and Ben Shelton have been mentioned, but they have yet to show that on the court. Roger Federer’s ex-coach Ivan Ljubicic has revealed that he doesn’t expect anyone to come close to the duo in the near future.
Alcaraz and Sinner have proven on several occasions that they are a level above other players on tour and even those in the top 10 in the ATP rankings. In the 2025 season, Sinner lost only six matches on tour, four of which came against Alcaraz. The same can also be said for Alcaraz, who lost eight matches, which includes two against the Italian star.
Other players have found it hard to defeat the duo on tour and most often they are favorites to win an event they feature in. On no occasion this season did any player win a tournament in which Sinner and Alcaraz featured. Also, their rivalry has made them consistently get better on the court.
Currently, Alcaraz leads their head-to-head record 10-6 having won four of their last six meetings on tour. Sinner’s victories came at the Wimbledon Championships and the ATP Finals on Sunday (November 16). In two of those meetings, Alcaraz won only one set, while Sinner won three sets in his four losses against the Spaniard.
They both won fourteen titles this year, including the four Grand Slams having won four major titles each in the last two years. During an interview with Puntodebreak, Ivan Ljubicic was asked about Sinner and Alcaraz’s dominance on tour. He revealed that they are going to continue their rivalry for two or three years:
Yes, I think things will continue in this direction. I think so because both Carlos and Jannik keep improving, keep adding things to their tennis. Their experience in important matches and under pressure continues to grow. The rest are not there, they don’t reach that level, so I don’t expect anything to change in the next two or three years. Perhaps someone will emerge, but it will be individual performances here and there; I don’t think they will challenge Carlos and Jannik on a global level throughout a year.
Alcaraz finished the season as year-end World No.1, and the player with the most match wins (71) and most tour-level titles (8). He claimed the French Open, the US Open, and three Masters 1000 crowns. Should he win the 2026 Australian Open in Melbourne, he will become the youngest player to complete a Career Grand Slam.
Ivan Ljubicic names Carlos Alcaraz as the most creative player on tour
Carlos Alcaraz got his game to another level last year as he lost only two matches from April to September. The 22-year-old won five titles within that time, beating his arch-rival Jannik Sinner four times on the court. He’s known for his variety of shots and ability to cope in difficult conditions and situations.

During the aforementioned interview, Ivan Ljubicic revealed that Alcaraz is currently the most creative player on tour. The Croatian added that the Spaniard gives a lot of excitement to fans each time he’s on the court:
However, right now, Carlos is the most creative player, he is the player who generates the most excitement on a tennis court. Still, I think it’s too early to talk about these things (he smiles). Yes, I believe he generates those emotions in tennis fans, in people who love this sport, he brings something different.
Alcaraz was supposed to be in Bologna, where the Davis Cup Finals are currently ongoing. But an injury during his match against Sinner at the ATP Finals in Turin forced him to withdraw from the tournament.
