A visibly excited Roger Federer decided to share his thoughts before he boarded his flight to Doha. Wearing a white t-shirt and a black face mask Federer spoke for less than 40seconds and left fans wanting for more.

King Roger talks about how excited he is to be back, and how pumped up he is feeling. He also says that he has been practicing well, but did not shy away from telling people that the road to recovery and complete fitness has been ‘long and hard’.

The Swiss Maestro also thanked all the people who had been involved in the whole process of his recovery.

Events leading up to Federer’s return

Federer after a practice session

Roger Federer had his first knee surgery just after the Australian Open in 2020. The tournament itself did not go that badly for Federer, but the manner of his defeat left a bad taste in the mouth. Federer endured a straight set loss to Novak Djokovic in the Semifinals, 7-6 6-4 6-3.

Close to June, 2020 Federer tweeted out that he had suffered a setback in his rehabilitation process and his right knee would require an additional surgery. Federer sounded hopeful that he could return at the start of 2021, but then there was another small setback. Finally, his return was pushed back to March, and Doha was chosen as the tournament for his return.

During his time away from the sport Federer did a lot of hiking around Zurich, where he stays. He also spoke on the coronavirus, choosing to tweet alongside Rafael Nadal. He also did not forget to congratulate Rafael Nadal, when the latter won his 2oth Grand Slam.
