Roger Federer is a 20-time Grand Slam champion who has reaped a multitude of records during his time on the ATP Tour. The 39-year-old was last seen in action at the Australian Open 2020. Herein, he reached the semi-final, but lost the bout against Novak Djokovic in straight-sets. A few weeks following this loss, Federer announced of the pain he’d been in and had decided to undergo a knee surgery to rectify it.

This put the Swiss Maestro out of commission for the entire season. However, Roger reassured the masses that he’d been recovering well and was en route to make a comeback at the Australian Open 2021

While the maiden Grand Slam event of the year is scheduled to begin from 8 February, the current World No.5 will be missing in attendance. The Tournament Chief, Craig Tiley, recently confirmed that “Roger ran out of time. To get himself ready for the rigours of a Grand Slam. And he’s very disappointed he won’t be coming to Melbourne in 2021.”

Even so, Federer’s compatriots, Marc Rosset and Yves Allegro have deduced that he will return in the singles-category in Rotterdam. Furthermore, the Tournament Director and former Wimbledon champion, Richard Krajicek has weighed in on the same.

Krajicek plans to personally reach out to Federer

The first-quarter of 2021 for the ATP calendar is locked in. If Roger regains his strength fully towards the end of February, he can contend in one of the three tournaments scheduled for the first week of March. These are; the ABN AMRO Open in Rotterdam, the Qatar ExxonMobil Open in Doha and the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships in Dubai.

Citing this line-up, Krajicek, declared that the doors of the Rotterdam event will always be open for Federer.

“Roger Federer knows that he is always welcome here,” Krajicek said

“He also likes to play in Dubai. And after Rotterdam it is now Doha and Dubai, Federer can also make that choice,” the chief continued.

He added, “Usually with the Big 3. You wait for the manager to contact you to indicate that they want to play. But I can drop an email just in case.”

This implies that Krajicek will himself reach out to the Swiss Maestro’s team to let him know of the support he has in Netherlands.

Federer holds a win-loss record of 28-6 at the ABN AMRO tournament in Rotterdam. Furthermore, he has claimed three titles there, one of which allowed him to regain the ranking of World No.1.
